Hynix, SiliconFile Join Hands on CMOS Image Sensor Business
November 30, 2007
Korea's Hynix announced on November 27 that the company and SiliconFile, a Korea-based CIS (CMOS Image Sensor) developer, have signed a cooperation agreement. The two companies plan to jointly develop CIS products, leveraging the synergy derived from combining Hynix's memory process technology with SiliconFile's CIS design capability.

Through the strategic alliance, Hynix plans to manufacture and sell CMOS image sensors utilizing SiliconFile's CIS design expertise and existing product lines. In return, SiliconFile will outsource its production to Hynix with favorable conditions, according to a press release by Hynix.

According to the same source, Hynix will not only participate in the joint development of CIS products but also acquire a minor stake in SiliconFile, in a bid to consolidate the partnership.
